Good morning north-central coaches Mike here just given our compliance chat underway today we're talking about two different things we're going to talk about our self release specifically as it pertains to a junior college transfer student, and then we're also going to talk a little about a representative of athletic interests and what that means to you so here's the scenario I have prospective student athlete that is a student at a junior college and as a coach I'm trying to determine whether I can speak with that individual and whether I need a self release waiver so if you're looking in the NCAA manual you would look at rule of thirteen point one point two point one all right and that's all about the self release and what you'll find in there is that the self release waiver is strictly used for NCAA Division three four-year college to four-year college transfers okay let me say that again so that is for four-year college to four-year college transfers at the Division three level that does not even pertain to Division two or Division one those are off limits to you so at the Division three level this is what we're talking about here alright but what it doesn't apply to is the junior college transfer so if you are entertaining a junior college transfer and in talking with them and as a prospective transfer you do not need a self release waiver similar to as if you were talking to a high school student okay, so coaches just understand that you are in the clear you can talk to a junior college transfer at any time, and you do not need a self release waiver you're good to go all right now what does that mean in terms of if I have an athlete on my team talking with somebody transferring right, so perhaps coach is sitting there thinking I can't talk to them but what if I know so-and-so on my team is good friends with this kid can I ask that kid to go ahead and talk to him a little about coming to North Central and that's it that's a great question, and maybe you found a loophole right but here's the deal in rule 130 29 it defines a representative of athletic interests okay and representatives of athletic interests fall under all the same rules that you as a head coach fall under okay so what that means is that based on this, and I'm just going to read this and this is the key to it right here okay if you go down in that thirteen point zero two point nine where it talks about representatives of athletic interests okay I want you to hear this is a biggie for you all right Section C it says be assisting or to have been requested by the athletics department staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student athletes and that's based on a representative the institution's athletic interests is an individual who is known or who should have been known by a member of the institution as executive or athletic administration to and would forego to see it says be assisting or to have been requested by the athletics department staff to assist in the...
